Luxor and Aswan are two of the most famous cities in Egypt. These cities exist along the river Nile with a huge historical background and places to visit. It is believed that Luxor houses ⅔ of Egypt’s monuments which makes it a perfect place to visit during holiday. Here are some places you must see while visiting Luxor and Aswan.

Luxor temple

Luxor Temple is a huge ancient Egyptian temple compound located on the east bank of the river Nile. The temple was constructed in 1400 BCE. Unlike the other temples in Thebes, Luxor temple was not dedicated to any god or pharaoh. Instead, it was dedicated to the coronation of new kingship. It has served as a ceremonial place for most pharaohs of Egypt who received crowns. The courtyard is composed of 74 columns in which you can see the pharaoh with different deities. In the center, a sanctuary consists of three chapels, dedicated to Amun, Mut, and Junsu, decorated by Ramses II. They served as storage for the sacred boats. The complex contains the temple of Seti I, the temple of Hatshepsut, and the temple of Ramses II in addition to other temples that are enjoyable.

Karnak Temple

Karnak temple was built for the gods Amun, his wife Mut, and their son Khonsu. The temple consists of a number of temples where you can see Ramses III temple, Hatshepsut’s Standing Obelisk, temple of Thutmose III, and temple of Khonsu. 

Valley of the kings

Valley of the Kings was part of the ancient city of Thebes and was the burial site of almost all the kings of the 18th, 19th, and 20th dynasties. The walls of Valley of the Kings were in many cases covered with sculpted and painted scenes depicting the dead king in the presence of deities.

Abu Simbel

Abu Simbel temples are a group of temples that have been cut out of Rock cliffs near Aswan, the bigger one was dedicated to King Ramses II while the smaller one was dedicated to his wife Queen Nefertari. These temples were constructed to celebrate King Ramses II victory against the Hittites during the Kadesh Battle in 1274 BC.

Philae temple

In Philae temple you will see the temple royalty gateway, the main courtyard, the gate of the inner temple, the inner temple, house of Isis, the Gateway of Hadrian, the temple of Hathor, and many other sites that are amazing and enjoyable.

Aswan High dam

Aswan high dam was very important in saving Egyptian lives as it is the main source of water in Egypt. The high dam is a huge dam that contains 18 times the amount of the materials used to build the great pyramids of Giza! The Dam is 3600 meters long, 980 meters thick at base and 111 meters tall.
